RECENT EVENTS On July 7, 2009, Don Thompson and John Logan delivered the Big Hall Lecture on builders liens to British Columbia's next crop of lawyers at the bar admission course. In March, Dinyar Marzban and Scott Booth were invited to speak to Judges at the annual family law meeting of the National Judicial Institute (NJI) in Victoria. NJI provides legal educational programs for all federal, provincial and territorial judges in Canada. Dinyar addressed mediation skills in the context of settlement conferences while Scott spoke on various aspects of the Spousal Support Advisory Guidelines. On June 10, 2009, Don Thompson gave a talk called "The Nuts and Bolts of Builders Liens" at the Pacific Business & Law Institute "Construction Law: Getting Paid in Tough Times" conference. John Logan recently captivated those in attendance at the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers conference held last month in Chicago with an interactive discussion on the Tercon case now pending before the SCC. On May 7, 2009, 120 clients and friends of the firm attended Jenkins Marzban Logan's 2009 2009 Construction Law Update. The half-day event covered a wide array of topics, including P3s, delay claims, subcontractor default insurance, tips for dealing with current financial conditions, and recent developments in builders lien and tendering law. Don Thompson gave a talk to the Canadian Bar Association Insolvency Section on February 4, 2009 (See our Publications section, Builders Liens Tips for Insolvency Counsel). Bob Jenkins, QC was recently named one of the Top 500 Lawyers in Canada by Lexpert. John Logan and Tyler Galbraith were recently successful for Mierau Contractors Ltd. in opposing an Application for Leave to Appeal to the Supreme Court of Canada brought by Continental Steel Ltd. (See our Publications section, Construction Law: "Taking a Nuanced View of Costs".) Bob Jenkins was the Conference Coordinator for the Canadian College of Construction Lawyers conference at Mt.
