Originally from North Vancouver, Katherine “Kate” B. Lawrence obtained her BA in Political Science with Honors from Scripps College in Claremont, California. After graduating, Ms. Lawrence worked for many years as a non-profit fundraising professional.
After obtaining her JD from Southwestern Law School, Los Angeles, CA, Ms. Lawrence served as an intern at two legal non-profit organizations in Los Angeles assisting survivors of domestic violence. Ms. Lawrence also clerked at the Los Angeles City Attorney, Family Violence Unit, primarily assisting in the prosecution of sexual offenders.
Since her return to Vancouver, BC, Kate has practiced exclusively in the area of family law. Kate has extensive experience resolving issues related to division of property and debt, parenting and support issues. Kate frequently obtains emergency orders to stabilize families in crisis, especially when one or both parties are experiencing issues related to addiction and/or domestic violence. She regularly appears in all levels of court, including the Court of Appeal.
Kate takes a pragmatic approach to the law and ensures that her clients have a clear understanding of the law, their rights, responsibilities, risks, and options when pursuing their litigation goals. While Kate frequently settles her clients’ cases through negotiation, mediation, and agreements, Kate is an effective advocate and has a track record of obtaining positive results for her clients in Court.
Outside of the office, Ms. Lawrence enjoys travelling, volunteering in the community, tennis, riding her bike, and spending time with her family and friends.
