The construction group of Jenkins Marzban Logan LLP is seeking to hire one to two articling students for the 2027 – 2028 articling year.

Articling at JML is not a ten-month audition. We hire students we hope will be a part of our team long-term. With ambition and a willingness to put in the work, JML creates room to grow into your own practice over time.
We want our lawyers to independently run their own files, but we don’t expect that on day one. Over the articling term, we help students build the skills and confidence to grow and sustain a legal practice. Students will typically be assigned a mix of files: some to work on as part of a team and others to run independently, with varying degrees of oversight.
Our students work alongside leaders in their fields and gain exposure to a wide range of practice areas, including:
- construction disputes
- insurance coverage
- commercial litigation
- shareholder disputes
- Indigenous development and infrastructure
- professional regulatory matters
- mediation and arbitration
- contract drafting
- construction project advice
Training, Mentorship, and Development
We take training seriously because we are hiring for the long term. Every student is paired with a partner who acts as both mentor and principal, and we plan mentorship pairings deliberately rather than leaving them to chance. If something is not working, we would rather hear about it and fix it.
Students can expect meaningful hands-on experience, including:
- carriage of your own files, with partners and associates on hand whenever you want a second opinion
- direct client interaction
- preparing and speaking to applications
- attendance at examinations for discovery
- attendance at mediations and arbitrations
Every month, we have lunch together and share banter, lessons learned, and practice updates, often with experienced counsel speaking on developments in practice, ethics, case law, and technology. It keeps everyone’s knowledge sharp and keeps us connected as a team. We also typically have summer and winter firm outings and regular in-firm themed events.
Compensation and Benefits
JML offers competitive articling salaries consistent with those paid by top-quality law firms in Vancouver.
We do not set a billable hours target for articling students. Your articling year is for learning, and we would rather you spend it doing good work and asking questions than watching the clock. For associates, our annual billable target is 1,575 hours.
In addition, JML provides:
- payment of fees and costs associated with professional memberships, insurance premiums, dues, and all costs related to the articling process
- a $130 monthly reimbursement for personal cell phone use
- a $285 monthly transportation allowance, which may be used toward parking or other transportation costs
- participation in JML’s employee benefits plan, subject to the terms and conditions of the plan, which currently includes:

- life insurance
- long-term disability insurance
- wellness benefit
Our Approach
JML is progressive in its approach to technology and firm processes. We have embraced AI tools in our practice while continually exploring more efficient ways to support our lawyers and students. We are looking for students who are engaged, curious, and ready to try new things and develop a broad range of practical skills.
Our lawyers shape their own practices. We are a construction firm at heart, but we have branched into insurance and professional regulatory work largely because one of our lawyers wanted to, and others have built in those areas alongside him. And while we have traditionally been a litigation boutique, several of our lawyers are building a solicitor-side practice. If you want to take your practice somewhere, the firm will back you in getting there. And if you just enjoy the work we do, it is entirely possible to build a full practice, and a path to partnership, by doing more and more work for firm clients that you build relationships with.
We recognize that articling students must also meet the requirements of the Law Society practice management course, and we will provide flexibility to accommodate that commitment.
