Profile

Nancy Brar grew up in Delta, B.C. and received her B.A. in Criminology at Simon Fraser University in 2013. She completed law school at Queen’s University, where she was heavily involved in legal aid clinics as a law student and successfully represented clients in criminal court, small claims court, social assistance tribunals, mental health tribunals, disciplinary court, and before the Parole Board of Canada. After Nancy was called to the Ontario Bar in 2017, she went on to practice in the areas of prison law, human rights law, and criminal law. She was then called to the Bar in B.C. in 2021, and she continued practicing in these areas as well as civil and family law. She has extensive experience in representing clients before a variety of administrative tribunals and courts both in Ontario and B.C.

As a law student, Nancy received awards recognizing her significant contribution to the Queen’s University legal aid clinics as well as to the community.

She brings her considerable litigation experience to JML to focus solely on family law: separation, divorce, parenting time and access, child and spousal support, protection orders, relocation, section 91 disposal of property orders, and property division.

Nancy is an empathetic and pragmatic lawyer with a client-centered approach. She works with clients towards a collaborative resolution of their matters, and where resolution is not possible without litigation, she is a fierce advocate for her clients in the courtroom.

Personal

Outside of law, Nancy enjoys running with a podcast on in the background, reading, paddle-boarding, and practicing her limited musical skills on the ukulele (although she admits she is not as good at playing the ukulele as she is at being a lawyer). She also spends most of her spare time with her adorable mini-labradoodle, Archie.
